9: Visualizing the Research

UPDATED date

In the following Summary table, medical specialties run across the top row. Cannabis compounds run down the left column. The compounds include nine cannabinoids, nineteen terpenes, and one flavonoid. The cannabinoids are labeled via acronyms. Each compound in the left column links to information in Appendix A: Common Cannabis Compounds

Some of the table cells contain linked acronyms whose meanings are as follows:

INV - in vitro study
AN - animal study
SS - small-scale human study

Clicking on a link leads to an explanation of how the given cannabis compound helps with the given medical condition. For example, the cell for CBD and arthritis links to an explanation of CBD's use in treating arthritis

Several things pop out from these tables. There have been no large-scale studies. Of the conditions investigated, chemical addiction appears to be the least studied. Pain and nausea has the most cannabinoids. By contrast, the use of terpenes in treating arthritis has been strongly emphasized. Almost all of the cancer research has been in vitro.

Finally, consider the significance for strain developers. For example, to get a strain that's good for cardiovascular conditions, an excellent initial goal would be to develop a strain with adequate amounts of CBD, THC, BCP, and perhaps THCV, as well as terpenes such as d-limonene, linalool, and eucalyptol.
